Spokane Colleges is hiring for the position of Assistant Teacher HS/EHS Infant/Toddler & Preschool (Early Childhood Program Specialist 1) at three locations: HS West Central Community Center, Martin Luther King Jr Community Center, and Sisters Haven.
 The position falls under the DIST HS/EHS/ECEAP Admin. department, with a monthly salary range from $3,262 to $4,320. The starting salary for new hires is $3,262, with salary step advancements offered after six months for entry-level positions and after 12 months for those starting at higher levels.

The Spokane Colleges Head Start/ECEAP/Early Head Start program supports over 1,600 children and their families, providing safe learning environments to foster children's skills for future education. The program emphasizes working with low-income families and encourages student-parent involvement in the educational process. Applications will be accepted until May 6, 2026, at 4:00 p. m. PST, and must be submitted before the deadline.

The Assistant Teacher position involves working under the Center Manager’s supervision, assisting with daily classroom routines, implementing the educational curriculum, and documenting children's developmental progress. Responsibilities include supporting individual learning opportunities, conducting developmental assessments, ensuring children's health, and involving parents in the learning process. Other duties include maintaining records, leading activities in the absence of the main teacher, participating in case management, and attending meetings and training sessions.

Key competencies for this role include action orientation, effective communication, accountability, collaboration, and adaptability. Minimum qualifications include one year of childcare experience or equivalent education, current First Aid/CPR training, and the ability to maintain a safe, healthy classroom environment. Desired qualifications include a State Early Childhood Education certificate or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, experience with diverse families, and basic computer skills.

Physical requirements for the role involve active work in both indoor and outdoor settings, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, and effective communication abilities. Employment conditions include a full-time schedule, a 6-month probationary period, and the need for a successful background check, as well as medical examinations related to employment.
