Director of Leadership and Capacity Building

Washington State

Inatai Foundation is a 501(c)(4) philanthropic organization committed to working with communities to shift the balance of power to ensure racial justice and equity across Washington state and beyond. Inatai’s 50-Year Vision is that communities have the power and freedom to shape every part of how Washington works—every system and every decision, ensuring equity and racial justice in every corner of the state. Inatai seeks a Director of Leadership and Capacity Building to join its Learning and Community Engagement team as the foundation works to realize this vision.

The Director of Leadership and Capacity Building will lead efforts to strengthen the long-term power and sustainability of organizations across Washington state. The Director will be a collaborative leader who seamlessly integrates the development, growth, and support of leaders, both inside the foundation and leaders of the organizations Inatai funds. They will guide the foundation’s community engagement efforts and ensure that learning and developing relationships are central to our work. Reporting to the Vice President of Learning and Community Engagement, the Director of Leadership and Capacity Building will design, implement, and continuously evolve leadership, capacity-building, and community engagement programs and strategies that reflect Inatai’s values and reinforce the foundation’s commitment to building power for equity and racial justice.

Compelling candidates will bring a core commitment to community power building and racial justice, paired with demonstrated experience supporting the capacity of leaders, strengthening nonprofit organizations, and building the programs and networks that reflect the needs of communities. A thorough understanding of how to effectively use 501(c)(4) structures and tools, civic engagement strategies, and political advocacy to build community power is highly desirable, as is a strong familiarity with the diverse communities of Washington state. The Director must live in Washington or be willing to relocate.
