Position Summary

The Financial Reporting Manager strengthens Whitworth University’s stewardship and financial integrity through accurate reporting, audit preparation, and regulatory compliance. This role leads the preparation of financial statements, coordinates annual audits, and oversees donor, endowment, and fixed asset reporting. Partnering closely with the Assistant Controller, the manager ensures consistency, transparency, and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Audit (40%) – Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements; coordinate audit schedules and documentation; ensure GAAP/FASB compliance.
  • Donor, Endowment & Fixed Assets (30%) – Oversee donor-restricted and endowment reporting; manage fund compliance; track and reconcile capital projects and fixed assets.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Reporting (20%) – Support Form 990 filings and other regulatory reports; monitor internal controls; ensure compliance with bond, debt, and insurance requirements.
  • Collaboration & Projects (10%) – Provide cross-coverage with the Assistant Controller; support ERP and reporting system enhancements; contribute to institutional projects and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting or audit experience.
  • Commitment to Whitworth’s Christ-centered mission and integration of faith and learning.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB, and nonprofit/higher education reporting standards.
  • Advanced Excel and ERP/accounting system skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.

Preferred: CPA or Master’s degree; public accounting or higher education experience.
