Title:  Spokane Public Radio (SPR) Operations and Production Assistant

Job Type: Part-Time, 18-22 hours/week

Pay Range:  $18.00-$20.00/hour depending upon experience

Location: Spokane Public Radio offices at 1229 N Monroe Street, Spokane WA; serving a wide service area of about 20,000 square miles.

About You:

Do you have an affinity for radio and technology? Spokane Public Radio seeks a part-time operations and production assistant to join our public radio community. As part of your day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll be working closely with our Traffic Director to retrieve programs and promos, and tag promos for SPR and NPR programs; assist in programming SPR’s broadcast services; read and produce SPR promotional announcements; help maintain broadcast logs; participate in on-air fundraising; and other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Retrieve programs and promotional material for on-air use
  • Tag promotional material for on-air use
  • Work with production team to program SPR’s broadcast services
  • Serve as occasional board-operator/host, including during pledge drives
  • Record and edit in-house promotional materials

Required Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Familiarity with public radio
  • Conversational on-air delivery
  • Natural curiosity and a willingness to learn
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently

 

Desired Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Familiarity with Spokane Public Radio
  • Experience with radio automation systems
  • Strong written and editorial skills
  • Proficiency in digital editing software (Adobe Audition, Audacity or Hindenburg)
  • A basic knowledge of production setups and technical equipment
  • Radio hosting experience
  • Knowledge of journalistic ethics
  • Experience recording/mixing for studio guest musicians
  • Willingness and ability to work weekend shifts

Schedule and Work Environment:

18-22 hours/week, in-person. This is not a remote position. The position takes place in the offices and studios of Spokane Public Radio. No adverse environmental conditions expected.

Physical Demands:

  • Visual/hearing ability enough to quickly analyze and comprehend written/verbal communication and all business documents is required.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Salary range: $18.00-$20.00/hour depending upon experience

Benefits:

This is a part-time position, benefits offered include sick leave at the rate of 1 hour per 40 hours worked; SEP-IRA benefits; and optional 403(b).
